The photographs of Roseanne Lynch are concerned with creating a space by artificial means and capturing aspects of a space and then abstracting it. Consequently the initial viewing is thinking one is seeing an existing architectural space or a minimal monochrome abstract work. It pays reference to an architectural space, but it is not to give an impression of one. It is a play with an unknown, not expecting to be defined in exact terms. It is an exploration of tone and beauty, a gradation of tone, the absolute of black nothingness. In the first instance Roseanne creates a space by lighting and photographing an object. In the second instance she will photograph the detail of walls meeting and often rely on the natural light and shadow. Light and shadow and the control and reliance on it play an important part in the thought process and execution of the work. There is a desire to create a silence within the space.Â
